Prof. J.M. van Dijl is Professor of Molecular Bacteriology. He leads a team of 3 senior researchers, 3 postdocs, and 18 ESRs. His research addresses the mechanisms that determine fitness, virulence and antibiotic resistance of bacterial pathogens, especially Staphylococcus aureus and related Gram-positive bacteria. The ultimate research objective is to deliver novel targets for fast diagnostics, innovative preventive or therapeutic interventions with anti-microbial agents, human monoclonal antibodies or vaccines, and compounds that can serve in both therapeutic and diagnostic applications (theragnostics).
