Antonio da Costa de Pina

Where were you born?
I was born in Groningen.
What kind of studies do you work on?
Initially, I will be working on Spatial Transcriptomic analysis from the msGUIDE (adalimumab-680LT and risankizumab-800CW) and the VISION (vedolizumab-800CW) studies. Later, I will also be performing wet lab work.
Why do you want to do research in this field?
I enjoy working on projects that involve advanced analysis techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing or spatial transcriptomics, where there is a large knowledge gap. I like combining basic research with data science to further our understanding of the mechanisms and disease pathology in IBD.
What is your background?
I have completed my Bachelor of Applied Sciences in medical research, followed by a master’s in biomedical sciences with a specialization in immunology and cancer research. During the final year of my master’s, I invested a significant amount of time in data science with a focus on single-cell RNA sequencing.
What relevant experiences did you gain during your study?
I am proficient in doing analysis techniques in the lab, ranging from doing ELISA’s to working with cell cultures. Furthermore, I learned to work with large data sets that can be analyzed using programming languages such as R and Python.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
I enjoy doing some self-study and learning new skills in Python, I also like to produce music and enjoy an evening with some series or a movie. When I am not at home, I enjoy making trips to cities or nature or spending my time working out in the gym.
